Scenario

Need a lawyer? He finishes his law practice in his Lincoln and is ready to hit the gas. As he moves around Los Angeles, he investigates cases while balancing a private life that includes being a father and two ex-wives. It was originally set up with a CBS series commitment in 2020 and was canceled just before the first episode was filmed due to COVID.

The film manages to capture his deep humanity amidst his flaws

This is an enjoyable first season of the show based on the Michael Connelly novels. The tandem of David Kelly and Ted Humphrey manages to bring to the screen the harsh story of the wise defense lawyer Mickey Haller, his associates and family. But one is struck by his passion for the law and genuine concern for his clients. With the exception of Haller, all the other main characters are relatable: Cisco, Lorna, Maggie, Trevor Elliott, Haley, and even Detective Grigg.

Bring Season on

The storylines are well thought out and quite entertaining. The twists hold the viewer’s attention as the drama reverberates. Particularly ingenious is the way Haller is able to unravel the magic bullet of connecting one crime to another and use it in court. Serious students of criminal law and procedure will certainly appreciate the law and the free training it offers.
